Jonathan Seidel, a native of New Jersey, is the new Director of the Dept. of Jewish Education of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona. He was educated at Oberlin, the Jewish Theological Seminary and U. C. Berkeley. He has taught at Stanford, Berkeley, Davis and Santa Cruz in Religious Studies and Judaica for over 12 years in addition to teaching numerous courses in adult education venues.
Jonathan's docotrate at U.C. Berkeley studies ancient Jewish magic and divination. He is currently working on magic and women's folk medicine in Jewish history. A trained Hassan, Jonathan is an afficiando of Sephardic music and has performed Ladino, Hebrew, and Yiddish music for twenty years. He loves hiking and spending time with his wife Linda and his daughters Maya (6) and Elah (2).
